"We are very proud of the innovative project developed with NZ Forest Restoration”
Our team worked closely with NZ Forest Restoration on the development of this voluntary carbon project, which represents the first Improved Forest Management project of its kind in Aotearoa New Zealand. The development process has at times been complex and challenging, as expected for a project breaking new ground in the local voluntary carbon market. Throughout this process, NZ Forest Restoration has remained committed to delivering a high-quality outcome and worked diligently through the rigorous external reasonable assurance audit process.
The project has been designed with strong adherence to international best practice, including robust baselines, conservative accounting approaches, and transparent monitoring frameworks to ensure credible and durable carbon outcomes. Importantly, the project focuses on supporting long-term forest regeneration and ecological integrity alongside carbon benefits.
These voluntary carbon units will provide both international and New Zealand buyers with fit-for-purpose offsets for carbon neutral claims. Issued under a recognised international high-integrity standard and aligned with the principles underpinning the ICVCM’s Core Carbon Principles, the project has also received a BeZero AA rating — the highest rating awarded globally to an Improved Forest Management project to date.
EAS chose to work with NZ Forest Restoration because of their focus on developing nature-based climate solutions with their approach aligning closely with our work supporting organisations globally with greenhouse gas measurement, reporting and verification, climate policy, and robust carbon accounting frameworks.
We are very proud of the innovative project developed with NZ Forest Restoration, which demonstrates the potential for voluntary carbon finance to support long-term investment in transitional forests in Aotearoa.
